Toyota Innova 2012 India

The Toyota Innova is truly the bread winner for Toyota India. Toyota Innova 2012 brings some minor improvements in terms of interior-exterior design. Toyota unveiled the new face-lifted model of Innova at the 2011 Indonesia International Motor Show. The new upgrade hasn't changed the car drastically but makes it feels fresh. This could be the last facelift of the Innova before a new sheet metal final replaces the current model. Mechanically, we suspect nothing has changed. The same 2.7-litre 4-cylinder engine is expected to be offered. Features such as navigation and diesel engines can be expected for the East-Asian home market.

Toyota Innova 2012 Engine

The new Toyota Innova engine will be the same diesel fuel type. In order to keep the costs down, the engine will be the same front installed and transverse type. It will be equipped with an in line, 2494cc, and 4 cylinder turbo-diesel engine. It will have a maximum power of 102bhp at 3600rpm. The maximum torque of the car will be 20.4kgm at 1400-3600rpm. All these will be attached to 5-speed manual gear transmission.

Toyota Innova 2012 Exteriors

Toyota Innova 2012 front-end may be modern but from the side, one will notice that nothing has changed from the older vehicle. The most noticeable change is the revised front end. At the rear, there are very few changes, the tail lamps are of a different design and bulge out slightly. Above the grille is a chrome thick band. The Bonnet has a more prominent V now.

The previous upright grill is now set more vertically while the fenders have new headlights stretched across. On the whole, in terms of its profile, it might be said that the new Toyota Innova does not differ too much in the looks aspect from its erstwhile model.

The dash lid looks to be lowered, like it was lowered from Corolla to Altis. This increases forward visibility & aids shorter drivers. The interior looks of Toyota Innova very simple and user friendly with minimum controls. For better comfort to passengers, 3rd row seat is s pushed back to a few cm. It can compromise little luggage space. In addition, there are steering mounted audio controls and blue tooth facility.

The dashboard is not altered much compared to the current version. It has a double-din DVD stereo system as a standard in the top end variant. The multimedia screen also displays the parking camera video. The dummy wood surrounds in the centre console have been made away and are compensated by a brushed aluminum effect console. The instrument cluster is completely different with the steering wheel lifted off from the Corolla offering stereo and mobile phone controls in the higher variants.

Toyota Innova Safety Features

The safety of Toyota Innova is further enhanced by presence of effective braking system. The passenger cell has 3 point ELR (Emergency Locking Reactor) seatbelts to minimize damage in case of collision and side door impact beams. Other safety features of the MPV include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), dual front SRS airbags, child protector locks, Theft Deterrent System etc. Overall, the safety features of Toyota Innova are very efficient and effective with powerful safety features, efficient brakes and tube less radial tyres.

The colors of the new Innova are Dark red mica metallic, Grey mica metallic, Light blue mica metallic, Silver mica metallic, champagne mica metallic, super white and white only.

Toyota Innova 2012 Ride and Handling

In terms of the drive quality and handling the turbocharged diesel engine are great like as usual. However some more power to make the Innova could have made it a way better highway cruiser. The new Innova still does maintain its poise in terms of the ride and handling. 

Toyota Innova 2012 Specifications

The engine does not get any plastic surgeries and it still has the same 2.5-litre diesel that does duty. The common rail engine puts out 102PS of maximum power at 3600rpm and peak torque of 200Nm is available from 1400-3400rpm.

The petrol cousin has a 2.0-litre, 16-valve engine that produces 132PS of maximum power at 5600rpm and maximum torque of 181Nm at 4000rpm. This makes the Innova a comfortable vehicle to travel and this has been the killer factor sealing the deal in favour of the car.

The dimensions of the Innova measures 4525 mm in length, 1760 mm in width and height. The wheelbase measures 2750mm with a ground clearance of 176 mm. The overall weight of the car stands at 1680 kg with 15 inch wheels. The tyres are 205/65 R15 type with full spare availability. The front breaks are of ventilated disc type while the rear is the run of the mill drum brakes.

The new Toyota Innova could also mean a higher price range of Rs 13 lakh (est. ex-showroom Delhi). The new face-lift version of the Innova will come with a steep price hike as the company is facing the wrath of a weakening rupee and strengthening Yen which will sadly be passed onto the customers. 

Toyota Innova 2012 Models

J Variants: This is the most basic edition of the Innova. It has a standard type single disc CD tuner with only two speakers (front only) and a plastic interior, and receives steel wheels with full hubcaps. It has manual keys (no remote control), no rear wiper, and no foglamps.

E Variants: In most areas, the E variant is the most basic edition of the Innova. It has manual keys (no remote control), no rear wiper, and no fog lamps. It usually has a standard tape player (cassette with manual tuner), and has only 2 speakers (on the front only). It is usually the cheapest version.

G Variants: The G variant has enhanced features like color-keyed wing mirrors and door handles, mouldings, a chrome tailgate garnish, and in the interior wood grain-styled trim on center console and door switch base. The dashboard features Optitron illumination with a rheostat.

V Variants: The V variant is the top-of-the-line variant of the Innova. It has fog lamps, leather seats, digital environment control panel, a DVD navigation system and is available with captain seats. It also has chrome finish rear view mirrors and handles.

Toyota Innova 2.5 E Diesel MS 8-seater:  It is the base diesel variant of Toyota Innova that comes without few standard features like Clock, Tachometer, Cigarette Lighter, Power Outlet, Audio System, ABS, airbags, etc.

Toyota Innova 2.5 E Diesel MS 7-seater: All the features are similar to that of Toyota Innova 2.5 E Diesel MS 8-seater except the Power steering, seven passenger seating capacity and rear seat slide.

Toyota Innova 2.5 E Diesel PS 8-Seater: All features are similar like Toyota Innova 2.5 E Diesel MS 8-seater, only two difference are Power Steering, eight passenger seating capacity and rear bench seat.

Toyota Innova 2.5 E Diesel PS 7-Seater: All features are similar like Toyota Innova 2.5 E Diesel MS 8-seater, only two difference are Power Steering, seven passenger seating capacity and rear seat slide.

Unlike some of the other SUV’s, such as the TATA Sumo Grande, Chevrolet Tavera, the Mahindra Xylo or the newly launched Tata Aria, the Innova has been immune to any sort of competition. The car has been ruling the charts right from when it was launched six years ago and is still untouchable. Despite no major changes till recently, the Innova still has a huge demand with a lengthy waiting list. This is the only reason that might tempt you into looking towards other cars.

Compare Toyota Innova with other Models

Toyota Innova vs Mahindra Xylo: The seats of the Xylo are comparable to the Innova and are equally comfortable over long runs. In short, the Innova is a good van to look at while the Xylo tries to be an SUV and an MPV at the same time and falls into a deep crevice somewhere in between. However, the Xylo scores in terms of the cost factor which is slightly cheaper.

Toyota Innova vs Tata Aria: The Tata Aria is more powerful compared to the Innova but also comes at a higher cost. However the Innova has a wide range of varieties to choose from along with the technological superiority over the Tata.

Toyota Innova vs Toyota Fortuner: Fortuner is good looking compared to Innova. Fortuner is not a people mover, Innova is. For six persons and a long drive, the Innova beats Fortuner any day. You get better space management and softer ride.

The short gearing and driveability mean you're always in a high gear, which help it edge its rivals in the city with a double digit mileage of 10.3kpl. The petrol variant gives a mileage of 8.5 Kmpl on city roads and of 12.5 Kmpl on highways. The diesel variants of Innova give a mileage of 10.2 Kmpl on city roads and that of 12.8 Kmpl.
