Tata Pixel
Tata Pixel India
Tata Motors showcased the Tata Pixel, a new city car concept. The Tata Pixel is inspired from the Tata Nano with just over three metres in length. The car is best in class in terms of the most efficient four-seater in the world. The car easily swallows up to four adults which is a sure short seller unlike most of its other competitors which allows only for two-seater and two children only.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Carl-Peter Forster, Managing Director and Group CEO of Tata Motors, said, “Tata Motors holds true to its belief that there is an opportunity in Europe for a city car, which is optimal in space, maneuverability and environment-friendliness. The Tata Pixel is a reflection of Tata Motors’ idea of what such a car should be.”
Tata Pixel Engine
The Tata Pixel comprises of 3 cylinder diesel with Bosch multi-point fuel injection (single injector) all aluminum metal. The engine delivers 66 horsepower (49 kW) with a displacement of 1,200 cc (73 cu in). It is based on the Value Motronic engine management platform from Bosch. It has 3 valves per cylinder overhead with camshaft. The compression ratio is 9.5:1. The bore and stroke are 73.5 mm (2.9 in) × 73.5 mm (2.9 in). The 'scissor' doors rotate upwards from the front to allow all four passengers to effortlessly enter or exit the Tata Pixel, even in the tightest of spaces, while the doors' large glass area provides excellent visibility.
Tata Pixel Interiors
The Tata Pixel is also designed to provide a high level of connectivity. Key functions are controlled by the driver’s smart phone, running ‘My Tata Connect’ -- the first integrated human-machine interface (HMI) concept from Tata Motors. The car has seat belts for all the four passengers. The car has a trunk space of 150 L which is 5.3 cubic feet. The inner structure panels are sourced from the Caparo. It has HSI Auto Static sealing systems (weather strips). The Instrument cluster is from Delphi. The windshield wiper is a single motor and arm system from Denso. The car has the rear-view mirrors, interior mirrors, manual and CVT shifters, washer system from Ficosa. The outside and inside door handles are from ITW Deltar while the seating is from Johnson controls. The glass is from Saint Gobain with Visteon air induction system.

For the Europe market the Nano was upgraded to meet EU safety and emission standards. The renewed Tata Nano was an highly improvised version compared to the standard Nano, which invariably lead to birth of the Tata Pixel. The car includes an extended wheelbase for higher road stability and grip. The car also comes with advanced safety features such as anti-lock braking system (ABS), an improved interior and exterior and it is also heavier than the standard Nano to withstand collisions and keep the occupants safe.
Tata Pixel Ride and Handling
The Tata Pixel is able to maneuver and park in tight spaces due to the zero turn toroidal traction-drive, Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT), and due to its steering system design. This results in a turning circle radius of 2.6 meters. The system assists rotation of the outer and inner rear wheels. It is a rear wheel drive with four speed manual transmission. The Front suspension is McPherson strut with lower A arm while the rear suspension is Independent coil spring with 15-inch wheels. It has power steering and an anti-lock braking system (ABS).
