Tata Indica eV2
Tata Indica eV2 India
Tata Indica eV2 is arguably the nation’s best selling diesel hatchback. The car has engines that deliver the right amount of torque, good fuel economy and stylish looks that makes it a good choice on the Indian roads. The Tata Indica eV2 is dream car as per Ratan Tata’s vision which has the size of the Maruti Zen, the spacious insides of an Ambassador and comes at the price of a Maruti Alto with the low fuel of diesel. This makes the car best suited to the Indian audience who generally travel with their large families and off course not to forget their huge baggage as well. All of this is easily handled by the powerful engine of the Tata Indica.
Tata Indica eV2 Exteriors
In terms of the exterior, the Tata Indica eV2 has nothing to boast about and is same as the V2. The lines, the muscles, everything still remain honest to the previous variant. But the new decals on the doors and the CR4 badging on the side give you a hint that there is something new about this Indica. The Tata Indica eV2 features broad 14 inch alloy wheels, new tail light cluster and rear bumpers. The aerodynamic design of Tata Indica eV2 allows air intake very freely. The overall finishing of the exteriors is good and looks neat and clean from all angles. The car is now lighter by around 10kg benefitting pickup. The earlier exterior looks with creases on the bumpers & wheel arches looked better while the new eV2 sports plain bumpers.
Tata Indica eV2 Engine
The Tata Indica eV2 sports an all new CR4 Common Rail Diesel engine that has a displacement of 1396 cc delivering 70 PS @ 4000 RPM with a torque of 140 NM at 1800-3000 RPM. The Tata Indica eV2 is also available with the MPFI petrol engine. Both these engines are compliant with BS4 emission norms. The diesel engine is mated with a five speed manual gearbox hits the top speed of 135kmph.
Tata Indica eV2 Interiors
In the interiors, the Tata Indica eV2 gets beige upholstery and the top of the line variant boasting of wooden inserts in the cabin. The shadow beige interiors gives airy and spacious feel to the interiors. The dashboard is still of the same design however the quality has improved a bit, though not in the Vista league. The fit and finish continue be of low quality compared to offerings from Fiat and Maruti. Other features available in the model includes centre console in a wooden finish, tachometer adding to the convenience of the user, latest graphic decals placed on the doors at the front and back, plastic wheel arcs and more.
Tata Indica eV2 Safety Features
The safety features that comes with the Tata Indica eV2 include Child Safety locks, Anti-Submarine Seats, Collapsible Steering Column, Side intrusion beam on all 4 doors, Provision for Rear Fog Lamps, Head lamp leveler, etc.
Tata Indica eV2 Colors
The Tata Indica eV2 is available in four exciting colours - Apple Green, Neo Orange, Arctic Silver and Mint White.
Tata Indica eV2 Ride and Handling
The Auto-Drive Assist ensures that while climbing a gradient the engine will not stall even if the foot is completely taken off the clutch. Thus enables the driver to easily shift his foot to the accelerator. Another first is the Clutch-To-Start feature that will ensure that one cannot crank the engine unless the clutch is fully engaged; hence there is no risk of re-crank if engine is on. The unsettled feel of the Tata Indica eV2 extends at high speeds, and the handling is not exactly assuring. The Indica running on a softer setup has always been prone to body roll, but never enough to put the driver off around a corner but now with 14-inch tyres, the ride is more pliant.

Compare Tata Indica eV2 with other Models
Tata Indica eV2 vs Maruti Swift: The Tata Indica has been around for a long time in India and this workhorse is yet to be reliable while the Maruti Swift has had fewer problems. The eV2’s spacious interior is the best in class but falls flat with respect to the quality of the Maruti. However, both the cars have good service network and low cost of labour means both these cars are a good value for money. The Maruti Swift pimps the Tata Indica eV2 with it’s ripped off looks from the car of the millennium – the Mini Cooper which tilts the favour on its side.
Tata Indica eV2 vs Ford Figo: Both the cars come with the same engine power but the Tata Indica is slightly more powerful and delivers a better mileage. The Tata Indica eV2 is also cheaper compared to the Ford Figo but the Figo hits back with good solid build and better interior quality, ride and handling.
Tata Indica eV2 vs Nissan Micra: Nissan Micra is one of the premium hatchbacks and has no qualms about it. The car is arguably the best in quality and offers superior ride quality as well. However, the new Tata Indica eV2 is loaded with features and is spacious at an affordable cost as well. The car also delivers full value for money with its class leading mileage.
