Skoda Laura is the replacement to the erstwhile Octavia. The five seater sedan is a stylish car that has no qualms about its unmatched beauty and grace which even dares on par with global standards. The Laura is available in both the petrol and diesel engines in eight variants for the Indian market. The Skoda Laura is combo of raw power, best-in-class top seed and some road ripping torque for top acceleration. The Skoda Laura is a D segment entry level luxury sedan and hosts a Pandora of features depending on the variant. Like most Skoda badges, the Laura has a classic design with good looks ready to rip some rubber.

The sturdy machine has got strong build up with sloping roofline which enhances the sporty appearance of the car. The outer look of the car is bold and classy with sparkling fog lights, Xenon head lamps, round off window corners and automatic adjustable side view mirrors. The grille is unmistakably Skoda and the tail lamps are also recognizable and give a solid character to the rear. The body colour bumper, door handles, alloy wheels and outside mirrors provide the car a dynamic appearance, building it appear current and good at sport. The New Laura has a more dashing and appealing exterior look with modifications at the front grille, headlights, rear lamps and so on.

 

Skoda Laura Engine

 

The Skoda Laura comes in three different engines. The 1.8 TSI 4V 1798cc, turbocharged petrol engine delivers a power of 160bhp at 4500–6200rpm and maximum torque of 250Nm at 1500 to 4500rpm for the (Active and Ambition).

 

The diesel variant of Skoda Laura is powered by the 2.0 TDI 4V 1986cc, turbocharged diesel engine (Ambiente and Elegance models) delivers power of 110bhp at 4200rpm and maximum torque of 250Nm at 1500-2500rpm.

 

Then there is a 2.0L TDI (Ambition, Elegance and Laurin & Klement - AT ) is powered by  2.0L, 1968cc, 4V that delivers a power of 140bhp at 4000rpm with a maximum torque of 320Nm at 1750-2500 rpm.

 

The Skoda Laura RS has a 1.8L TSI (Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection) petrol engine with variable valve timing. This engine produces a maximum power of 160bhp at 4500-6200rpm and a maximum torque of 250Nm at 1500-4500 rpm.

 

Skoda Laura Interiors

 

With its roomy and spacious interior, the Skoda Laura is worth buying. The interior depicts class and style with the ivory upholstery, high class leather and wooden decor with chrome inner handles. The interior is packed with a host of functional features including interior door handles, 12-way electrically adjustable driver seat, heated front seat, sophisticated audio player with 6.5 inch LCD TFT colour touch screen, and audio controls mounted steering wheel. On the flip side the arm rest on the rear seats doesn’t have cup holders and the audio system too could have been better.

The Skoda Laura has several safety features and these include Xenon headlamps that have dynamic levelling. The car has system that monitors tyre pressure and it also has six airbags. The car has anti lock brake system along with electronic brake force distribution feature. The car also has traction control feature and anti slip regulation. The other safety aspects in the car include distance control for front as well as rear parking, electronic stability program, hydraulic brake assist/mechanical brake assist.

Skoda Laura Ride and Handling

 

The body control is generally very good, apart from over long-wave undulations, when the extra weight of the engine block up front can set the car’s nose nodding a bit. The Skoda Laura has better ride and handling balance than the Corolla Altis. The Laura displays exceptional poise during hard cornering. The accurate but slightly ‘wooly’ steering, the incredible levels of grip and the ready-for-action gearbox also punch in to make any drive on a twisting road memorable. Grip from the stiff chassis and suspension is also very impressive. The variable vane geometry turbocharger ensures a better throttle response even at low speeds.
