The new Teana pools amazingly advanced technology with a streamlined body design and a powerful engine. Teana is a luxury sedan that is designed to attract stares and awe its passengers. It holds mechanisms and parts that have been imported from Japan and the difference in road performance is noticeable. Oodles of luxury and comfort, smooth, powerful V6 engine, features that delight and pamper – the Nissan Teana hits all the right buttons.
The new Nissan Teana is out to give tough competition to the Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry.
Engine:
Under that vast expanse of a hood is where the major change lies. The previous car codenamed J31, featured a 2.3 L V6 pumping out a 170 PS and 224 nm of torque. The current J32 car also features a V6 but now displaces all of 2496 cc. As a result the power is bumped upto 182 PS and torque is up by 4 Nm bringing the total to an impressive 228 Nm.
Though grunty, this creamy, smooth unit, officially codenamed VQ25DE, V6 petrol engine that has been acclaimed as one of the “Ten Best Engines” by Auto World magazine for 15 consecutive years. This engine is tuned more for smooth delivery rather than outright explosive performance, considering it is mated to the Xtronic CVT, possibly one of the smoothest continuously variable transmissions in the market.
Exteriors:
One look at the Teana and its enough to see where the designers were headed. Like a Lamborghini looks fast even while standing still, similarly the Teana looks luxurious while standing still or moving. What is immediately noticeable is the size of the vehicle. The Teana sports extremely generous dimensions and considering the Indians'' affinity towards large family sedans, the proportions are spot on. Up front, a large, bold yet classy grille, finished in chrome, sits between the pair of vertically elongated headlamps that blend into the front fenders. The front bumper houses three air inlets, the outer two incorporating the front fog lamps and also topped off with chrome embellishments. The all black roof with dual sunroofs only adds to the already grand personality of the car.
The Teana''s body side treatment blends richly flared body panels with boldly curved lines. The elegant, six-light windows are designed to emphasize the luxurious space of the interior. The outside mirrors are also optimally shaped to minimize wind noise and the side moldings are executed in a sword motif, imparting a sense of excellent quality. Finally at the back, the sculpted outwards tail lights impart an impressive wide look to the otherwise staid looking bottom of the Teana. ''Shift Hospitality'' is how the Teana is marketed elsewhere.
Interiors:
Luxury is just one word that can define the Teana. Its leather upholstery and 8-way electronically powered front driver''s seat will have you enjoying a relaxing drive all day long. The Teana is longer than most cars in its segment and it has a wide wheelbase that improves its interior space and stability. However, it has a lower ground clearance that may make it difficult to speed over large bumps.
The new Teana sports retractable stylish glass sunroof with UV protection, which lets the rear seat passengers enjoy the sun, filling the cabin with an open air ambience. The sophisticated wooden interiors and the stylish dashboard caress you like a luxury suite of a 5-star hotel. The cockpit is not only visually appealing but also carefully designed to deliver ultimate convenience and ease of use to the driver and all passengers concerned. The information console provides you with complete visual confirmation of air conditioning settings, outside temperature, audio system and time, as well as it allows you to monitor the drive computer. The large speedometer is further enhanced by a silver-colored ring that cannot escape your notice. A one-of-its-kind rear power sunshade keeps the sunlight and glare away from rear passengers without blocking the driver''s rear vision while also maintaining the temperature you set within the cabin of the car. There is a LED indirect illumination on the center console, front passenger and rear door grips that shines softly to create a more welcoming interior ambience. The soft-touch buttons and the pampering ottoman-style leg-rest on the front seats to support the lower legs take driving luxury to the next level. The boot space is also huge.
Ride and Handling:
Driving the car itself is a relaxing experience. The steering feels light with hardly any feedback but that shouldn''t be a major issue for the target owners of the Teana. Go round a bend too fast and the car immediately lets you know it''s not too comfortable. What definitely stands out is the ride quality. The Teana comes pretty close to the magic carpet ride quality offered by the bigger Mercs.
Safety:
Active head restrains, Dual front side and curtain SRS airbags. The car is well controlled with Electronic Brake force Distribution system(EBD) and VDC technology which automatically controls brake and engine output to enhance stability when sensors detect that the vehicle may slip sideways, due to steering, braking or accelerator pedal operation.
Fuel Economy:
The Teana with the V6 engine gave a very respectable 8.5 kmpl around city and a marginally better 10 kmpl on the highway.
Variants, Price and Colors:
The Teana comes in 2 Petrol variants- XL and XV.
Price List
The Teana comes in 6 colors - Oynx Black, Luna Blue, Brilliant Silver, Amethyst Grey, Bordeaux Red and Pearl White.
Imported Japanese mechanism and technology, spacious wooden interiors with leather upholstery and a stylish dashboard but is very pricey.
Our Verdict:
Aimed at being the best luxurious in its segment, the Teana not only accomplishes this but also challenges cars from higher segments. Nissan also needs to increase its service network which at the moment is pretty few and far between.
In short, a pricey Sedan with all luxury features in it.
