Ford unveiled its new small car "Figo" in September, 2009 in New Delhi with Alan Roger Mulally, Ford''''s President and Chief Executive. Figo has been launched and will compete with the likes of Maruti Ritz, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz & Skoda Fabia. Ford Figo is designed and engineered to compete in India''''s small car segment, which accounts for more than 70 percent of the new vehicle market. It leverages Ford''''s small-car platform architecture, sharing underlying technology with the Ford Fiesta, already familiar to Indian drivers.
Engine:
In India, the Ford Figo comes in 8 variants. The petrol variants are powered by 1.2 Duratec engine while the diesel variants are powered by 1.4 Duratorq engines. The petrol engine with SEFI technology churns out a power of 70 bhp at 6,250 rpm and a torque of 102 Nm at 4000 rpm. The CRDi (Common Rail Diesel Engine) stirs up a power of 68 bhp at 4,000 rpm and a torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both engines are coupled by a 5-speed Manual Transmission gearbox for smooth movement of the car. This all-aluminium unit meets the Bharat Stage IV norms and given its long stroke cylinder dimensions. The engine helps the Figo deliver great performance in both city and highway road conditions. The Ford Figo has fine engines at a killer price which also returns with good fuel economy figures.
Exteriors:
Design-conscious Italy inspired the new Ford Figo''s name is colloquial Italian for "cool." From the front it is typical ford design - like we have seen in Ford Fiesta and Ikon in India - A big front air dam below the grille which gives Ford Figo a very distinct & aggressive look. Ford Figo features a fresh, contemporary shape that will be a distinctive alternative to traditional brands in this segment.
Quality, substance and generous proportions are clearly evident in the design of the Ford Figo, which features a solid stance, an invitingly large interior and a vibrant, youthful character. Its package is right-sized for the market, which is predominated by congested urban driving conditions. From its modern headlamps, grille shapes and sculpted bonnet of its distinctive face to the subtle integrated spoiler and chamfered window shape at the rear. The bold graphic of Ford Figo''''s large side window shape is another key kinetic design feature hinting at the comfort and spaciousness awaiting occupants front and rear.
Interiors:
Ford Figo''''s interior is a unique combination of quality, substance and generous proportions. The car has a seating capacity of 5 and a rear boot that can pack anything, right from your shopping bags to the luggage for a weekend gateway. To sum it up, Ford Figo is the most spacious small car in its class. Ford Figo is available in two different interior finishes, a very peppy Coral IP theme which will definitely appeal to the urban youth and an Ebony Black one which would satisfy the needs of people looking for class and aesthetics.
Ford Figo is also equipped with a Bluetooth Phone Interface, an MP3 player, a radio and 4 speakers. With easily accessible controls on its central stack, Figo helps you concentrate on your driving. From power window buttons and electric adjust mirror, to remote boot opening, Figo packs in everything.
Ride and Handling:
Ford Figo was impressive to say the least. Most important is the fact that is delivers a firm but pliant ride and the steering are brilliant in its efficacy. The response from the right pedal is also impressive and overall driveability in the high cogs of the 5-speed transmission marked it out as a car with terrific potential. The sure planted feel though is what will win many over to this car and now only one thing remains.
Safety:
Ford Figo has undergone rigorous safety testing conditions and it emerges as a winner in the hatchback car segment. It features dual front airbags and Anti-lock Braking System with EBD which enhances car handling and provides a comfortable riding experience. Apart from that it features intelligent central locking, engine immobilizer (PATS) and a 3 point seatbelts for front and rear seats. It has a Rapid Deceleration Warning system that, at speeds greater than 96 kmph, activates the hazard warning lamps and warns trailing drivers about the sudden brakes.
Fuel Economy:
The 1.2L Durate Petrol engine gives a mileage of 11 kmpl in City and about 15.4 kmpl on Highway while the 1.4L gives a mileage of 14 kmpl in City and around 19 kmpl on Highway.
Variants, Price and Colors:
Ford Figo is available in 8 variants, 4 of petrol and 4 of diesel:
Petrol Variants – Ford Figo LXI, EXI, ZXI and Titanium
Diesel Variants – Ford Figo LXI, EXI, ZXI and Titanium
Ford Figo comes in 7 exciting colors- Moondust Silver, Colorado Red, Chill, Squeeze, Sea Grey, Panther Black and Diamond White.
