Tata needs no introduction to the Indian customer .Who does not know the name of TATA in India? TATA is one of the companies of India which is globally popular. Tata Motors Ltd is a multinational corporation headquartered in Mumbai, India. It is a Part of the Tata Group. Tata Group manages its share-holding through Tata Sons . Company was established in 1935 as a locomotive manufacturing unit and later expanded its operations to commercial vehicle sector in 1954 after forming a joint venture with Daimler-Benz AG of Germany. They got huge success which inspired Tata motors to manufacture cars along with Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle.
In 1998 it launched Tata Indica. It was India’s first fully passenger car. It became a hit in Indian market. It was also exported to Europe, UK and Italy. Tata Motors has consolidated revenue of USD 16 billion after the acquisition of British automotive brands Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008. Tata Motors has auto manufacturing and assembly plants in Jamshedpur, Pantnagar, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Sanand and Pune in India, as well as in Argentina, South Africa and Thailand. Tata Motors introduced the world’s cheapest Tata Nano car in late 2008. Middle class families rushed into market for bookings and also attracted the world by introducing cheapest car on the globe. Tata Nano is also known as people’s car. Media appreciated the work of Tata Motors as a symbol of India’s ambitions to become a modern nation. It would surely be the Nano, the tiny car with the even tinier price-tag.
Tata Motors is the first manufacturer of Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) which is designed, developed and manufactured "entirely" in India. Tata Safari was the first SUV product of Tata motors. The SUV was first released in 1998 with a 1.9-litre Turbo Diesel engine. It got a huge response from people and it became very popular in India. There after Tata motors planned to produce more SUV & MUV and executed it by producing the brands like Tata Sumo, Tata Winger etc.
The total sales of Tata Motors in 2009 is the highest ever for the company. According to recent press release (April 2010) explained that the total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in March 2010 were 75,151 vehicles, a growth of 38% over 54,452 vehicles sold in March 2009. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for March 2010 were 71,046 nos., a 35% growth over 52,653 nos. sold in March last year. Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal at 642,686 nos. are the highest ever and a growth of 29% over 498,547 nos. sold in 2009.
Future plans of Tata motors:
Tata Motors plans to launch deluxe version of the Nano by 2012.It plans to sell world’s cheapest car (Tata Nano) in countries Africa, Latin America, and members of the south Asian association of south Asian nations. It spends 30 billion rupees a year on the new products and plants.
