About Tata Safari:
Tata Safari was first launched by Tata Motors in 1998 with 1.9 litre turbo diesel engine. Tata Safari is manufactured locally in India and comes in 4 wheel drive options. Second generation Tata Safari hits the Indian road on august 2005 with 3 litre more refined turbo diesel engine and 2 litre petrol engine. Next modification on Tata Safari was done on October 2007, this time it was equipped with 2.2 liter Dicor engine and after running few months the engine was replaced by 2.2 liter variable turbine technology engine.
Tata Safari in 2010 is available in advanced 2.2 litre VTT engine. This engine generates more power power and torque with less fuel consumption. The new Tata safari Dicor is equipped with better quality leather upholstery, decent looking dashboard with new wooden trim. This SUV is made for off road activities and got enough space to relax. New Safari comes with 5 link suspension with coil spring to give more comfort on off road.
New Tata Safari is also equipped with in-build DVD player with screen mounted on back side of front seats. It is also equipped with latest safety features and airbags takes just 40 milliseconds to open in case of collision. It reaches 0 to 60 kmph in just 6.8 seconds.
The third generation Tata Safari is coming some time in 2011. Upcoming 2011 Tata Safari will equip with more new features and better fuel economy.
Tata Safari is competing with Mahindra Scorpio, Ford Endeavour and Honda CRV.
Tata Safari Exteriors - The Tata Safari DICOR makes a great impression with its bold, rugged looks and styling. The SUV''s front fascia displays a broad muscular stance with large bumpers and chunky 16-inch wheels while a rear spoiler and roof rails add a sporty touch. Standard exterior features include alloy wheel rims, clear lens head and tail lamps, roof rails, rear spoiler with lamp, stylized front grille, bumper, side cladding, body-colored outside rear view mirrors and body-colored spare wheel cover.
Tata Safari Interiors – Tata Safari seats are large and comfortable. There isn’t much difference in the interiors. That means a simple clean design. The quality is poor and the buttons are flimsy. The door handles feel like they will snap if you pull hard and the trim doesn’t fit seamlessly. And that rear aircon system still looks like an aftermarket unit. The tan color however is a welcome change. The design of the new gear knob looks good too.
Throw in the best seats in the business and acres of cabin space and it is hard to find a more comfortable SUV. The boot is massive too. It is one of the most comfortable SUVs at any price, but its size makes it daunting to drive in the city. The higher VX version gets dual airbags, ABS, reversing camera, DVD screens in the headrests and power everything. You get twin aircon units, seats that flip and fold and a net to hold onto your luggage. There’s also a new instrument cluster, and the interior lights dim theatre-style.
Tata Safari Ride and Handling - Tata Safari comes with powerful 2.2 litre VTT engine, which gives superb experience of driving. The moment you hold the steering you will get confidence, even if you try to apply acceleration slowly the car jerks, it shows the enormous power behind it. You can reach 0-100 km speed in just 8 seconds. The Tata Safari’s on-road ride quality was always good but now it has been improved even further and the ride is less thumps. The new Safari feels more agile on tarmac. The steering is light but still feels vague. It is now more eager to turn into corners, although you have to slow down considerably for them. There is considerable body roll too. Straight-line stability is good but it doesn’t take much to unsettle it. Under hard braking, the Safari still wiggles but it is not as scary as before. Lots of ground clearance, a ‘Shift-on-the-fly’ four-wheel-drive system and a low range allow you to go off-road with a lot of confidence.
Tata Safari Colors – Tata Safari is available is various heart rending colors like Mineral Red, Walnut Gold, Cyrus Grey, Quartz Black, Arctic Silver, Artic White, Mountain Green and Pearl White in India.
Tata Safari Engine - A new engine has breathed new life into the Tata Safari. The 2.2 litre engine doesn’t have the same initial response of the older 3.0-litre but is much nicer to drive and more responsive once the engine is spinning faster. This engine develops 140bhp. The car powered its way from 0-100kph in 15.1 seconds. The 2-litre turbocharged and intercooled (LX 4x2) diesel engine produces 89 bhp. The SUV features a wishbone suspension in the front and coil springs in the rear. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard across all variants.
