REVA Electric Car Company was established in Bangalore in 1994 as a joint venture between the Maini Group of Bangalore and AEV LLC of California, and venture backed by lead US investors Global Environment Fund and Draper Fischer Jurvetson. It is now a part of Mahindra Group; Mahindra acquired Reva Company in 2010 with 55.2% of stakes and renamed it as Mahindra Reva Electrical Vehicles Private Limited.

The company’s main motto is to go green, as everyone knows electrical cars will not release carbon dioxide, and these cars have their identified target audience. Reva’s first commercial car entered Indian market in 2001 under the G-Wiz brand and it entered UK market in 2004 with the same brand. REVA is a technology innovator with the largest deployed fleet of electric cars in the global market today. Reva is exporting its manufactured products to 24 countries around the world.

Mahindra Reva Electrical Vehicles Private Limited plans to launch REVA NXG by 2012 in Indian market. The NXG will also feature REVA's patented drive-train technology and the REVive system. The two-seater sports car is expected to stand out for performance and speed. The NXR will be available with either lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries. Well known Indian car designer Dilip Chhabria, is responsible for the styling.

Reva NXR has some unusual features, one being its REVive battery charging system. Telematic remote access to the car's on-board Energy Management System allows REVA to analyze a near depleted battery upon request. Their support centre can individually determine the battery condition within seconds and allow access to the remaining charge. This serves as a virtual back-up battery while minimizing the risk of damage to the power pack due to depletion. Range, speed, safety and interior specifications all fall along the lines of a new generation of battery electric vehicles.
