Mahindra History
Mahindra in India is wholly a subsidiary of Mahindra group. It was started in 1945 in Ludhiana as Mahindra and Mohammed. The company was renamed as Mahindra and Mahindra after India and Pakistan partition in 1948. Mohammed took his shares back from the company and went to Pakistan after partition. The company started with manufacturing Army vehicles and Tractors But the company did not stay at this only, it rushed into many other sectors like financial services, trade and logistics, automotive components, after-market, IT and infrastructure conglomerate.
Mahindra and Mahindra Company has acquired manufacturing plants in China and the United Kingdom, and also has three assembly plants in the USA. The company has its partnerships in many companies like France and International Truck and Engine Corporation, USA and Renault SA which is globally popular.
Mahindra is one of the leading Tractor manufactures in the world. It entered Indian market in 2007 with its passenger vehicle Mahindra Renault, with a joint venture with French automaker Renault. Currently the company is an emerging leader in passenger vehicle segment in Indian market which is already successful in SUV segment. It has several plants around India; it has plants in Mumbai and Nasik which manufactures MUVs. The manufacturing of Mahindra Engines credits goes to Igatapuri plant where as the SUVs, light motor vehicles and 3 wheelers are manufactured at Zaheerebad and Haridwar plant respectively.

Mahindra Bolero - Mahindra Bolero is available in eight variants Bolero - SLX, Sportz, DX, DI, XLS, XL, Invader and Camper. It is one of the most successful and popular Sports utility vehicle of the Mahindra and Mahindra Group. The car is robust in appearance and it has been elegantly designed, keeping in mind the conditions of the Indian roads. Mahindra Bolero is also among the best fuel efficient cars of India as the manufacturer has equipped it with a 2500 cc diesel engine with 5-speed transmission, 4-stroke diesel engine, and better mileage. It delivers maximum power of 72.5 hp at 4000 rpm (DIN 70020) and peak Torque of 15.5 km-m at 2000 rpm. The price tag of this car is around Rs. 4,61,896
Mahindra Xylo – It is a MUV with a power of 140Bhp with an all aluminum 4 cylinder 2200cc CRDi Turbocharged engine accelerating 4 valves per cylinder. It is reportedly working with a combination of diesel and battery-operated hybrid for Ingenio or Xylo. The price tag of this car is around Rs. 6,69,618
Mahindra Scorpio – It is a SUV which is available in four different variants in Indian market that is Turbo 2.6, Turbo 2.6DX, Sportz and Turbo 2.6SLX. It comes coated in amazing metallic shades of shades Nobel Black, Diamond White, Coral Blue/Warm Grey and Engine Silver. The price range of the car varies from Rs 7.21 lakh to Rs. 9.2 lakh.
Mahindra Thar - It comes with powerful NEF CRDe Turbocharged Intercooled; euro IV engine gives unimagined power to this sleek jeep. While the turbocharged engine comes with 5 speed manual transmissions. The engine capacity is huge 2498cc and is built to churn out max power of 105 hp at 3800 rpm. It offers a very good mileage of 9.5 kmpl in the city roads and 14 kmpl on the highways. It is a 6-seater gypsy; the jeep looks cool with its 3920 mm of length, 1710 mm of width and 1930 mm of Height.
Mahindra Sales and marketing
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), a part of the US $7.1 billion Mahindra Group recently announced that its auto sales for August 2010 stood at 28903 units as against 22413 units during August 2009, an increase of 29%.
The company’s domestic sales stand at 27275 units during August 2010, as against 21410 units during August 2009, an increase of 27%. Exports have grown by 62% during the same period. The domestic sales for the passenger UV range of products including the Bolero, Scorpio and Xylo stood at 12994 units during August 2010 up by 14% from 11443 units during August 2009.
The 3-wheeler range of products domestic sales stood at 5074 units during August 2010 up by 39% from 3652 units during August 2009. The 4-wheel pickups range of products domestic sales stood at 7533 units during August 2010 up by 45% from 5188 units during August 2009.The sale of the company’s sedan, the Logan, has also seen an upward trend with sales for August 2010 standing at 801 units as against 469 units during July 2009, a growth of 71% in India.
Mahindra Awards
Mahindra models have grabbed many prestigious awards. The Flagship vehicle Mahindra Scorpio has won the awards like, most successful brand launch of 2003, Car of the Year 2003, BBC World Wheels Award, CNBC Autocar, Business Standard Motoring etc. Mahindra Xylo has grabbed MUV of the Year from the NDTV Profit Car and Bike Awards, UV of the Year from the CNBC TV 18 Overdrive Awards and MPV of the Year from the ZigWheels Car and Bike Awards.
Mahindra Future plans
Mahindra plans to launch its new product World SUV W201 in 2012 in India as well as globally. It is a SUV, a V6 petrol engine; the price tag of this car will be around 12 to 14 lakhs in Indian market.
