The much awaited SUV code named as W201, the Mahindra XUV 500 is all set to make its appearance on the roads in a few days as we write. In fact the number ‘500’ in the name is similar to the double 00 in the James Bond character. The entire design and development for this first of a kind SUV has been done by Mahindra itself. The Mahindra will arrive at a price of 12 to 14 lakhs in the Indian markets. The launch date is expected to be on the 28th of September 2011.

Mahindra XUV 500 Engine: The Mahindra XUV 500 is bolstered by an engine with 2179cc. The 2.2 litre engine will be similar to that of the mHawk engine of the Mahindra Scorpio. The XUV 500 will power up to a maximum of 120 Bhp and a maximum torque of 290 Nm. The gear box is fused with a 6 speed manual gearbox. It is also expected to arrive in a 6 speed automatic transmission option as well.

Mahindra XUV500 Exteriors: The Mahindra XUV is one of a kind SUV in its generation. You will hardly find anything like it on the roads. The Mahindra XUV 500 will have a wide front body with the company’s logo at the centre of the front grille. The Car will also sport LED lights along with xenon flood lights and fog lamps for enhanced vision during the drive. The XUV will be a mean machine with huge rough and tough wheel arches. The macho machine will be buoyed by an equally monstrous 17 inch alloy wheels. The XUV 500 is not expected to come with a spare tyre at the back end of the car so you will need to look for the same which will be attached under the body.

Mahindra XUV 500 Interiors: With its one of a kind exterior looks the Mahindra XUV 500 is not far behind in the interior segment as well. The car is nothing short of premium comfort in the SUV segment. The car boasts of comfort features from the both the worlds of SUV and the Sedan. Some of the features are power steering, power windows, dual-zone climate control system, along with an in built music system to take care of the entertainment. AUX, USB and Bluetooth connectivity is also expected to adorn the Mahindra SUV. The driver seat will be a delight with the electronic adjustable option in addition to the retractable ORVM’s. The high tech features do not just stop here. If rumors are to be believed the car is also expected to come with a global positioning system to keep track of the locations.

Mahindra XUV 500 Ride and Handling: With a robust power of up to 120 bhp steaming the engines, the Mahindra XUV 500 is expected to come with an equally powerful breaking system to cool the car’s thrills. The XUV 500 is expected to have disc braking system at both the front and back wheels. Then there will be the high tech marvels such as the ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and EBS (Electronic Brake Distribution). It will also have an Electronic Stability Program in place to keep the big SUV under control irrespective of any terrain. Then there is the reverse parking sensors, reverse guide system to take care of the slim parking spaces available in the cities. To fight off any global dominance the XUV 500 is also thinking on the lines of international auto brands. It has all the possibilities of having a cruise control and traction control as well.

Mahindra XUV 500 Specifications: This time around though Mahindra is the leader in the SUV segment in the Indian market the company has not just merely launched a SUV. In fact the company claims to have carried out extensive research across the globe before arriving at the design of the Mahindra SUV in India.

The Mahindra XUV500 also owns the distinction of being the country’s first indigenously developed monocoque SUV. The monocoque design is different from the traditional design in which there is a frame which is then covered with lightweight metal sheets. The monocoque design is also called as single shell design.

It is also equipped with a novel transverse engine from the Mahindra. The XUV500 is truly niche and world class and this is further exemplified in the way it was conceptualized and created. Right from ensuring the global standards, quality, technology, testing norms, regulations and emissions every aspect related to the car has not at all been comprised.

Mahindra XUV 500 Ex-Showroom Price: The much awaited SUV from Mahindra, the XUV 500 will be available with 4X2 and 4X4 variants. The 4X2 variant is likely to be placed under a price tag of 11- 14 lakhs. The 4X4 variant of the SUV will be priced within the 15- 17 lakh Indian Rupees.

Mahindra XUV 500 Models: Mahindra XUV 500 is expected to come in Mahindra XUV 500 2WD and Mahindra XUV 500 4WD models

• Mahindra XUV 500 2WD: This will be the 2179cc mHawk engine powered car. It will be the two wheel drive version.
• Mahindra XUV 500 4WD: It will also be powered by the same 2179cc engine with a four wheel drive.

Mahindra XUV 500 Competitors: The Mahindra XUV looks to place itself between the likes of Mahindra Scorpio and the upbeat SUV cars like the Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Honda CRV. As of now Mahindra has started on a un charted territory with no other car maker on the same field. Probably the only remote competitor could be the yet another out of the box Skoda Yeti.

Mahindra XUV 500 Mileage: The mHawk engine from the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio will also power the XUV 500. So the car would have a no non sense approach in terms of the fuel efficiency. As per reports the car rightly offers to deliver of 12kmpl in the city and 14 kmpl on the highways.

Mahindra XUV 500 Safety Features: The Mahindra XUV 500 would be well loaded with advanced safety features like the ABS and EBD, along with six airbags to provide utmost safety at the instance of a collision. The park assist feature with parking sensors is definitely an additional safety measure which is very much needed with such a huge size vehicle. Fog lamps, rear defogger, high mounted stop lamps etc ensure total safety.
