Chevrolet was founded by Louis Chevrolet, a race car driver and son of Cooper Chevrolet, and William Durant (founder of General Motors). Chevrolet is not new to India. Maharajas, freedom fighters, the common man and Bollywood were familiar to Chevrolet because the company was started before the Indian independence. Nawab of Hyderabad who was considered the richest man in the world at the time used Chevrolet Tourers as official cars.
Chevrolet came to India in 1928 and established an automobile company in Bombay (Mumbai) with an assembly plant constructed in Sewree. General Motors was the first automobile company to open an assembly plant in India. Vehicle Production started in 1928 with the National Series AB Touring. The company struggled a lot in the year 1952-1953. The’ socialist’ Indian government forced to shut shop along with other foreign companies. The’ socialist’ Indian government’s motto was to give first preference to Indian products to improve national economy, so Chevrolet stopped their production in India.

CSIPL operates vehicle manufacturing plants in Halol, Gujarat and Talegaon Dabhade, Maharashtra; it maintains headquarters in Halol and Gurgaon and a large technical center in Bangalore. Chevrolet’s Halol and Talegaon Dabhade manufacturing plants have a combined production capacity of 385,000 vehicles annually.
