BMW X3
BMW X3 is a 4-door Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) produced by the German automaker BMW. Based on the BMW 3-Series automobile platform, BMW X3 is available in a four-wheel drive (4WD) version and a five-seater configuration. The BMW X3 was launched at the Detroit Auto Show in 2003 but has been brought to India only in 2007. The main competitors of BMW X3 are Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan X-Trail.
BMW X3 Engine: With the same gem of an engine as that of the 325i, the BMW X3 just begs to be revved. The engine is silky smooth and pulls really well once spinning fast. The 2.5-litre In-line six-cylinder (I-6) petrol engine generates 192 bhp and 245 Nm of torque. The engine is teamed up with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. However, BMW X3 can also be coupled with an optional 5-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic. Start it up and you can barely notice the engine running. Prod the accelerator and the engine snarls but feels silky smooth right up to the red line.
BMW X3 Exteriors: BMW X3 rides high on a wave of style. Its front fascia incorporates black bumpers with integrated fog lamps, ornamental twin-kidney grille with chrome surround and distinct, sleek headlights. Electrically-adjustable exterior mirrors and a rear window wiper are standard on all BMW X3 variants. Also standard is a body-colored roof spoiler that incorporates the third brake light. Roof railings are available as optional on the BMW X3, as is a trailer tow hitch with removable ball head that includes trailer stability control. It stands on 17-inch light-alloy wheels. Everything in BMW X3 configured very well.
BMW X3 Ride and Handling: BMW and handling go hand-in-hand and the BMW X3 is no exception. Push the BMW X3 into a corner and you come to know why people love BMWs. The car handles like no other SUV - it feels like a larger 3-series. But this comes at a price: the steering isn’t light, which can be a pain at parking speeds and the low-profile tyres might look good but they make the ride harsh. This, coupled with the stiff suspension, makes you feel most bumps on the road. The suspension system in BMW X3 includes a double-joint spring strut front axle and central-arm rear axle. It also comprises front and rear anti-roll bars. Sports suspension without vehicle lowering and Servotronic is optional on the 2.5Si. Inner-vented disc brakes in the front and outer-vented disc brakes in the rear offer forceful stopping power to the BMW X3. The BMW X3 features xDrive, all-wheel drive system with variable torque distribution.
BMW X3 Interiors: BMW X3 is pretty easy to find an ideal driving position. The seats are well bolstered and hold you well during cornering. Although an SUV, it isn’t very high like other soft roaders, the driver’s height lies between a sedan’s and an SUV’s. The steering is rather large for the interiors. Buttons are logically laid out in an uncluttered fashion, but feel slightly small. An SUV has tons of space, three rows of seats and a big boot; the BMW X3 has none of those. The BMW X3 isn’t very wide, so you sit unusually close to the co-driver by SUV standards. While legroom for the front seats is adequate, the rear can become cramped especially if a tall driver/passenger is seated in the front row. Boot space is merely decent. The BMW X3 is loaded with a lot of equipment, including powered seats, a massive sunroof, 6 CD changer/MP3 player, and Xenon lamps with washers, LED tail lamps, steering-wheel mounted controls, parking sensors, automatic wipers, and the on-board monitor can double up as a television.
BMW X3 Safety Features: A blend of style, comfort, and power, the BMW X3 does not forget to ensure the protection of its occupants. It features bumpers with aluminum impact absorbers in the front and steel impact absorbers in the rear; deformation units at the front and integrated side impact protection in the doors. Door reinforcements offer optimum occupant protection in the event of a side collision. It also comes standard with airbags, seatbelts, central locking with electronic immobilizer and crash sensor, child seat fastening in the back seat, and flat tyre indicator. In addition it features Dynamic Stability Control, Automatic Differential Brake (ADB-X), Brake-Force Display, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), and Hill Descent Control (HDC) to give you complete safety and control over the car on different types of terrains. ADB-X emulates the function of a differential lock through direct intervention on a specific wheel. The HDC enables the BMW X3 to take steep downhill gradients safely by automatically reducing the car’s speed without the driver having to apply brake. Some optional safety features includes a front and rear Park Distance Control, a child seat fastening in the front passenger seat, and an alarm system with remote control).
BMW X3 Maintenance Cost: The maintenance cost of BMW X3 not more than 15 thousand rupees per service. You need to be clever when you leave your car for servicing, because people who do repairs and services the car generally says that the Oil, Spare parts price is expensive even though it is not. What you can do the better thing is buy directly from the authorized shops, so that you can save money. Anyhow the BMW Company gives you a warranty for 3 years and the official service stations of BMW will take care of your BMW X3.
