Toyota fortuner (New Launches)
Toyota Fortuner 2012
Toyota Fortuner 2012 facelift was the highlight of the Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd. launches at the expo. The Auto expo also saw the facelifts of the new Innova, and new Land Cruiser 200. The company also released the new Camry. An automatic gearbox will be available for the first time.
The facelift version of the new Toyota Fortuner 2012 comes with two wheel drive mated to a five speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission as well. It is also available with a 3.0-litre D-4D diesel engine in 4WD and 2WD.
In terms of the exterior looks, the Toyota Fortuner 2012 has a new inverted trapezoidal grille, automatic HID headlamps and alloy wheels. On the inside a black wood finish and a 2DIN six-inch touchscreen system with DVD, AUX, USB and Bluetooth compatibility make up the facelift. The Toyota Fortuner 2012 looks very muscular and solid with its black sporty side steps, sporty roof rails and 17” sporty alloy wheels.
In terms of the side profile, the car does not seem much alien except for a new design 12-spoke, 17–inch alloy wheels and body coloured mirrors that now feature turn indicators, the previous model made do with chrome mirror housing. On the back end of the car, the taillamps get a new style and feature prominent twin circular lamps while the entire unit is of a clear lens type. The tailgate is now encompassed in a new chrome garnish with an embossed name tag. The rear bumpers have also not been spared of the plastic surgery and the reflectors look similar to the Innova. The new Toyota Fortuner 2012 is also expected in come new colours including a blue shade.
The new Toyota Fortuner 2012 price starts at Rs 19,99,000 for the 4x2 Manual, Rs 20,69,000 for the 4x2 Automatic and Rs 20,99,000 for the 4x4 Manual.
In terms of the drive and handling, Slot the gear lever in D, depress the accelerator and vehicle is raring to go without much fuss and responds well to the 3.0-litre D4-D engine quite well.
The gear changes happen smoothly and change ratios are also fast and nippy for the city drivers. The gear box is quite responsive for the most part. On the flipside you will find a slight lack in power during the downshift.
You will hardly find any difference between the two-wheel-drive Toyota Fortuner 2012 and the four-wheel-drive. The drive wheel on the new Fortuner seems a bit light and offers very little feedback. The 168bhp engine makes for a smooth journey and yet has the power to pack in a punch. The manual five speed variant delivers a torque of 343 Nm as well.
People looking for a SUV with an image would surely gel well with the Toyota Fortuner 2012. As expected the 2WD automatic is priced lower than the 4WD model.
The Toyota Fortuner 2012 specifications come with a width of 1840 mm, length of 4705 mm, height of 1850 mm, and wheel base of 2750 mm and has a ground clearance of 220m. The overall kerbweight stands at 1885 kg.
