Maruti Cervo India
03-May-2012: Maruti Cervo, Tata Merlin, Volkswagen Up, Skoda Citigo and Renault Clio have all made huge waves but most of them have hardly managed to sweep anything. Yes, both the Tata Merlin and Renault Clio were not at all launched. They only turned out to be big time media speculations. The story of Cervo also seemed to go the same way until recent developments.
However, a national daily, TV and website have now revealed that the company is indeed mulling to launch the Maruti Cervo for India. This was further confirmed by a senior official from Maruti who said that the company is looking to launch a car to replace the Maruti 800. The only bitter part is that the Indian Maruti Cervo will not be like the current one in the global market and it will also be a lot more costly from the initially speculated price and will be in the price range of 2 to2.5 lacs.
The Maruti Cervo will look to create a strong sensation among the compact cars lineup in India. As a stylish and sporty car responsible for the next generation coupe Frontera, Maruti Cervo was first born in 1977. Later, was released in 1979 in the name of Alto that later became a senior and penetrated the then concept of Alto minicars. The basic premium, a unique and the light weight characteristics became the common identity of the Cervo’s that came in succession. The Maruti Cervo has been responding flexibly to the needs and trends of the times. In fact it's really a long time since the advent of 1982 second generation Cervo, third generation in 1988, a fourth in 1990 and 1996 to 1998 and so on. The Cervo has been a dormant player in the foreign markets.
As a matter of fact, even now, the company car has tried to make a full model change from scratch and create a new mini. In May 2009, the Cervo was adapted to the eco standards and also improved the engine along with interior and exterior design changes for the Japan market. Maruti Cervo is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2012 in the Indian market. This small car is planning to repeat the same story in India like it did in Japan. The Maruti Cervo will look to rewrite the cheapest car story in India after the debacle of the much famed and hyped, Tata Nano. Only time will tell the fate of Maruti Cervo's success. But looking at the past acclaims of the numero uno car maker in India and its most envied dealership network, things sure look bright for the Maruti Cervo.
Maruti Cervo Engine
There has been no official word on the Indian Maruti Cervo but it is expected to come with the same basic configuration of the international markets. It is equipped with a powerful 0.7L, 660cc petrol engine. The engine is capable of churning out a max torque of 64 Nm at 3500 rpm and Max Power of 60 bhp. The Maruti Cervo mini released in November 2006 was added with direct injection turbo engine with 3cylinders that delivered 64ps with 10.5kgm of torque. The other CVT, +7 speed powertrain which is the flagship of Suzuki minicars (that is the same Wagon R engine) is the most advanced direct-injection with the traditional three-cylinder turbo that delivers 60ps with a force of 8.5kgm at a higher power. The CVT is also fuel efficient with a mileage of 23km / L (conventional turbo 4AT 19.8km / L).
A "+ + CVT turbo direct injection" is surprisingly the first combination in Japan. Furthermore, with the addition of the SR Turbo there have been small improvements, such as ride and comfort. In October 2007, additional SR + CVT with direct-injection turbo engine from Japan aimed at the improvement of comfort and quietness of the engine.
