Chevrolet Spark India

Chevrolet Spark was launched in India to take on the market leader Maruti Suzuki. The new Chevrolet Spark has a wheel base that is 5mm longer than the old Matiz. However they both still retain the same length with 3495mm measurement. The new avatar is a lot sharper in the fashion department. This time it has a well-defined bonnet V, pointy headlights and tiny slit for a bonnet intake. In terms of the build quality, the Chevrolet Spark is pretty good for a small car and the panel gaps are fairly tight. On the inside, the centrally-mounted instrument console sits proud on the dashboard and makes for a unique style statement. The Chevrolet Spark with all this ingredients offers a mileage of 16.9kpl with a top speed of 156Km/hr.

Chevrolet Spark Engine

The Chevrolet Spark is run by a 1.0L, 995cc, S-Tec (Smart-Tec) petrol engine which really pumps up some raw power. The 995cc power-horse produces 63bhp of maximum power at 5400rpm and maximum torque of 90.3Nm at 4200rpm. With a kick ass power the engine delivers a top notch performance with better fuel efficiency and also delivers good acceleration. The car stays still and does not tremble with fear even at triple digit speeds. The compact car is mated with five speed manual gearbox. The Chevrolet Spark LPG also comes with the same specifications, power and torque. On the LPG mode the car has a slightly less power with 60 bhp and 88.4 torque at 4200 rpm.

Chevrolet Spark Ride and Handling

The Chevrolet Spark has a well resolved ride and handling package and is less susceptible to crosswinds. There is a hint of body roll and the inside rear wheel does lift off tarmac but the grip levels are excellent. You can tame the corners with its powerful engine and go for an enthusiastic drive. On the Rev, things improve considerably and though it does not match up to the big boys, the car her rides well without much fuss.  In-fact Chevrolet Spark represents the best combination of ride & handling in its segment. With turning radius of 4.6m, maneuverability is excellent along with very light steering. However steering doesn’t provide any feedback at all especially in straight line.

Chevrolet Spark has headroom of 970mm (Front) and 905mm (Rear) with the legroom of 1130mm (max.) and 995mm (min) with the rear knee room of 850mm (max.) and 670mm (min.) and with the shoulder room of 1254mm that is enough, even for a six feet tall person. The boot capacity of this hatchback model is 170 ltrs.

Chevrolet Spark competes in the entry level hatchback segment with the likes of Ford Figo, Maruti Alto, Hyundai Santro, Wagon R, Maruti Swift, and the Hyundai i10.

Compared Chevrolet Spark with other Models

Hyundai Eon Vs Chevrolet Spark: Hyundai Eon is based on the fluidic sculpture design of Hyundai and contains beautiful and aerodynamic curves with a very upmarket exterior styling. The design of the interiors seems slightly plain if compared with the Eon. Hyundai Eon is a better choice overall across the variants and starts at a much lower price. The Chevrolet Spark does offer a better engine and impressive handling, but looks dated.

Hyundai i10 vs Chevrolet Spark:  The i10 may not be as cute as the Chevrolet Spark but she is eye-catching contemporary with smart detailing and excellent proportions. The cute styling of the Chevy Spark might make her look tiny in this Company but she's actually quite spacious on the inside, with more knee room and shoulder room.

Maruti Swift vs Chevrolet Spark: The Maruti Swift offers better build quality, mileage, features and also has a good re sale value but comes at a price costlier than the Chevrolet Spark. The Spark on the other hand is a value for money with some smart styling, space and nippy performance at a far lesser price.
